NBA

The NBA playoffs opened with the first play-in games last night. The 76ers edged the Heat 105-104. The Bulls blasted the Hawks 131-116. The play-in series concludes tomorrow, with Chicago at Miami, and Sacramento at New Orleans.

MLB

Josh Smith’s pinch-hit double in the top of the ninth inning plated the winning run, as the Rangers edged the Tigers 5-4 yesterday. Tarik Skubal gave up a run in the first inning, then surrendered three more in the sixth. The Tigers got an early homer from Kerry Carpenter, then scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth to tie the contest. Parker Meadows hit his first homer of the year. In the bottom of the ninth, Mark Canha drew a walk, but Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson and Carpenter each struck out. Detroit committed three errors, each of which contributed to Texas runs.

The Tigers host the Rangers again this afternoon. Kenta Maeda will start against Jack Leiter. Coverage will start at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Blake Perkins singled home Brice Turang in the eighth inning to give the Brewers a 1-0 win over the Padres yesterday. On a bullpen day, five Milwaukee relievers allowed just three hits.

The Brewers have today off, and begin a series at St. Louis tomorrow. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Kyle Gibson.
