Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Brasilia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Consular Clerk in the Consular Section.


The work schedule for this position is Full Time (40 hours per week).

Duties

Basic Function of the Position – Provides administrative support to the Consular Section Chief and the rest of the consular section, including all travel arrangements. Responsible for time and attendance (T&A). Responsible for office procurement and coordinates repairs and maintenance of the section with the Embassy's Management Section. Supports the full range of consular services, and performs moderately difficult clerical and related work pertaining to a limited range of non-immigrant visa services.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  Experience in admin/clerical/secretarial or customer services functions is required.


JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Knowledge of office administrative management functions. Knowledge of visa processes, host government and passports. Familiarity with host country geography, culture, customs and economy. Basic knowledge of customer service techniques. Familiarity with consular operating procedures including eligibility and requirements for non-immigrant visa applications.

Education Requirements:

Completion of secondary (high) school is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: (This may be tested)


Level III (fluent) in speaking/reading English is required.


Level III (fluent) in both speaking/reading Portuguese is required.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (This may be tested)


Ability to work with MS Office-Word Processing, Excel, PowerPoint, Consular software and similar applications. Time-management skills.   Ability to identify priorities. Ability to work independently. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Typing Level II (30-59 wpm). Ability to exercise common sense and judgment when checking visa applications and information provided by applicants.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Brasilia may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.


For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.


The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
