Tigers Lose on Walk-Off – Monday Sports Wrap

Ji-Man Choi’s bases-loaded single off Joe Jiménez in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Tampa Bay Rays a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers yesterday. Detroit held a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the eighth, thanks to a strong performance by Matthew Boyd, who gave up a run on two hits over seven frames, and struck out nine. Harold Castro homered. The Rays closed the gap with two runs off Buck Farmer in the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth, an error, a walk and a single set up Choi’s game-winning hit.

The Tigers begin a series against the Astros at Houston tonight. Edwin Jackson will start against Wade Miley. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift. 

The Washington Nationals hit eight home runs in a 16-8 rout of the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday. Starter Chase Anderson was touched for three of those. He didn’t make it through the third inning, and was charged with 10 runs. Aaron Wilkerson allowed four homers in relief. The eighth came off infielder Hernán Pérez, who pitched the ninth. Mike Moustakas homered twice for Milwaukee, and Ben Gamel and Orlando Arcia also went deep.

The Brewers open a set against the Cardinals in Saint Louis tonight. Zach Davies will return from the injured list to start against Dakota Hudson.

The Copper Country Horseshoe League season wraps up tonight. Calumet One and L and L will meet in the tournament championship at the Drift Inn. Dreamland One and Harter’s Party Store will play in the consolation match at Rocky’s Bar.
